Artist Connection - Rod Sidley

Join the Mill Creek Art Connection at the Twins House (the new Bed and Breakfast), 272 Compton Avenue, on February 12, 2012 at 2 pm for our first Artist Connection – Rod Sidley: Technique and Inspiration Architecture – Photography – Woodworking.

The Mill Creek Art Connection connects local artists with the local Mill Creek area through exhibitions and discussions. In addition to the Artist Connection series, MCAC supports Art on the Avenue during the Wyoming Fall Festival as an exhibition of visual art from local artists in the Wyoming.

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. For reservations email artonave@yahoo.com or call 325.9302 by Saturday, February 11. A shuttle will be available from the Wyoming Golf Club.

This powerful play examines how aggression and violence permeate youth culture as four young men struggle with the pressures of competitiveness, anger and vulnerability. Dennis Foon, one of Canada’s leading young-adult playwrights, interviewed teens, social workers and violent offenders to write this drama about how boys use war as a metaphor for their lives — on the street, in school, in sports and in their relationships with the opposite sex. The playwright uses invented language to stand in for harsh slang, creating a poetic and highly theatrical experience. Performances will include a facilitated talkback to help students articulate and respond to the issues of the play.

City of Wyoming Income Tax Forms

City of Wyoming Income Tax forms are available online at the City's website -http://www.wyoming.oh.us. Please manually type in the link to obtain your forms. To reduce costs and increase efficiency, forms are no longer mailed to residents.

The City does not accept electronic returns. The Wyoming Tax Ordinance, Chapter 181, requires that all returns contain a copy of the State of Ohio form IT-1040 to be considered complete. All 2011 returns or extensions, 2012 declarations, and 2012 first quarter payments are due to the Income Tax Department by April 17, 2012.

The Junior Womens Club of Wyoming (JWC) is pleased to announce a free public speaking engagement with Julie Shifman. Julie Shifman energizes women to live their best lives. She is an inspirational and award winning speaker, author and business owner, and believes in every woman’s ability to challenge herself and to grow, as she continues to do herself. Julie started her career as a professional ballet dancer and then became a successful lawyer in New York City and Cincinnati before founding her company Act Three in 2008.

Julie is the Founder and President of Act Three (www.actthree.com), an organization that helps women to define their next stage of life and to create their own personal action plan for living out that life. She is the author of the book Act Three: Creating the Life You Want (to be published in 2012) which illustrates the Act Three process using the stories and life lessons of remarkable women she interviewed across the country. Wyoming Woman's Club Meeting

Wyoming Woman’s Club will meet on Monday, February 6. Speaker will be Susan Rahn from AJ Rahn Greenhouses. Susan will be demonstrating and giving tips on Container Gardening.

Meetings of the WWC are held the first Monday of each month, October through May, at the Wyoming Civic Center. A social time begins at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon, and the speaker is from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Guests are warmly welcome. SUMMARY OF DUKE ENERGY POWER OUTAGES MEETING

Duke Energy would like to thank you for the opportunity to listen to your concerns and share our ongoing reliability efforts with residents on Tuesday, January 24 in the public meeting sponsored by the City of Wyoming.

This is a summary of efforts Duke Energy is taking to improve electric reliability on the Finneytown 42 circuit which covers the area most impacted by outages on the Westside of Wyoming on “the hill” (covering streets such as Fleming, Ritchie, Liddle Lane, etc). Please note there are additional circuits serving Wyoming which are being assessed by Duke Energy engineers as well. Information on the remaining circuits will be shared as soon as a thorough analysis is complete.

The “transformer retrofit program” is part of the Duke Energy reliability and integrity initiative to improve overall system reliability and to minimize the number of customers impacted by an outage. Work completed on the Finneytown 42 Circuit includes the following:

Installation of 427 new “cutout” fuse devices
Upgraded 344 lighting arrestors – used to help mitigate equipment lighting strikes
Installation of 695 animal guards –Hampering the ability of squirrels and other animals from inadvertently causing outages on transformers

This work started in September, 2011 and was completed in late December 2011.

Race to Nowhere - Shown by Wyoming Parent School Association

The Wyoming Parent School Association is showing the documentary film "Race to Nowhere" on Sunday, February 12, at 3:00 pm at the Wyoming High School Pendery Center. The film addresses the high-pressure culture in schools and children's lives which creates unhealthy and stressed out kids. This film is only shown by locally organized screenings and includes an open dialogue with parents, students, teachers and administrators.
