Join the Green Area Foresters!!
In response to feedback regarding the health of the City’s Green Areas, a volunteer effort to preserve the natural health of these areas is now underway. If you are interested in reforestation efforts in the City’s various Green Areas (i.e. Stearns Woods), please join us for an introductory and kick-off meeting on Tuesday, June 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers (800 Oak Avenue). This annual 18 hole outing is a four person scramble format with handicaps and is played at the nationally ranked Wyoming Golf Club. The $135.00 registration fee includes complimentary luncheon, drinks, and raffle. Prizesand on course contests are offered throughout the day.

The Gene Pitman Charity Golf Outing is a major source of funding for Wyoming Youth Services and allows the organization to continue to provide essential services for our youth, including counseling, crisis intervention, parent education forums, after school and school break programs and service learning opportunities. FAMILY AQUATIC CENTER OPENING WEEKEND!

The Family Aquatic Center opens for the season on Saturday, May 26. It will be open from 12:00 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 26 and on Sunday, May 27. It will be open from 12:00 to 6:00 on Monday, May 28.

Monday, May 28 will be FREE for military families, all military families are welcome to enjoy a free day of swimming.

Wyoming Historical Society May Program - The Inclines of Cincinnati

Our own David Savage will present this interesting program on the inclines that were such an important part of Cincinnati in the late 1800’s. The five inclines carried people and freight away from the smoke and noise of the city up to the clean air on top of the hill. Learn about the beer gardens and entertainment venues that were at the top and bottom of them.

The program is tomorrow, Thursday, May 24^th, 7:00 pm in the Great Room of the Presbyterian Church. It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The Wyoming Police Department is accepting applications from citizens interested in participating in the 6th Citizens Police Academy Class which starts on September 13 and ends with a graduation on November 19. Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

The Wyoming Citizens Police Academy program was created in order to provide an opportunity for citizens to learn more about the Police Department, its officers, and what officers do every day to keep our community safe. The Citizens Police Academy is a comprehensive eleven-week program that will introduce participants to all aspects of community law enforcement. Courses within this program will be taught by local law enforcement officials, local public officials, and other guest speakers.

May Fete Plant Sale

Do your perennials need to be divided and you’re out of space for new plants?

Are you removing perennials to start a vegetable garden, put in a patio, or make some landscaping changes?

Do you have too many house plants?

Did you over buy vegetables, herbs, or flowers for your garden?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, put your plants to work for the schools! Donate them to the May Fete Plant Sale. We are accepting any and all healthy plants in nursery pots with soil. Please label the plant if you know what it is. Check the chart for details on when and where to donate.

Cupcake Cuties Animal Walk

Girl Scout Brownie Troop #43330 will be running a cupcake walk at May Fete to benefit the SPCA. The "Cupcake Cuties Animal Walk" game will take place in Peeweeville between 11 am and 4 pm. The game cost 50 cents to play. No May Fete tickets will be accepted. This is part of a service project that the troop has been working on this year. All proceeds will be donated to the local branch of the SPCA.

Summer Day Camp Program

An adventure every day awaits youngsters ages 3-13,
Monday through Friday,
June 11 to August 17
from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm
at the Wyoming Recreation Center

The Wyoming Recreation Department Summer Camp program returns for a sixth season of fun! Summer Camp runs for 10 weeks. Each week will feature both indoor and outdoor activities, group games, cooperative games, contests, challenging and fun crafts, hiking and nature activities, and swimming daily at the Family Aquatic Center. Camp is held rain or shine, with rain-day activities. Each child will receive a camp shirt. Bring a sack lunch and drink daily. Light snack supplied in the afternoon.

Camp size: Camp Director, Jan Fresh, and her staff, which includes certified school teachers and college students, have an exciting summer planned including weekly traditions, a talent show, and more. Staff-to-child ratio of approximately 1:10 will be maintained; 1:8 on field trips. There are approximately 100 campers per week.

Important Information: Parent packets are now available at the Recreation Center or on the City's website. All forms are due back to the Recreation Center on or before May 25. This includes all permission sheets, schedule for the summer weeks attending, transportation, medical, and handbook forms.

A parent meeting will be held on May 16, 7:00 pm, at the Recreation Center.

Field Trips: Some field trips are an extra fee to the camp and must be paid in full by May 25. A schedule of the activities is provided in the parent packet along with the fee. Any child signed up for the field trip must attend the field trip. There will be no camp at the Wyoming Recreation. Center on field trip days. Weekly field trips include places such as the Duck Boats, Kings Island, Reds game, and Dagaz Acres to name a few.

Wyoming Recreation Department - Fitness Attendant

The Wyoming Recreation Department is seeking interested individuals for the newly created position of Fitness Attendant at the Wyoming Recreation Center. This is a part time position with morning, evening, and weekend shifts available.

Fitness Attendants will be responsible for the general supervision of the fitness center. We are looking for strong customer service skills and dedication to providing our members and guests with a safe and enjoyable fitness experience. Other responsibilities will include welcoming members and guests, educating patrons on proper use of the machines, providing basic fitness information, and maintaining the weights and cardiovascular fitness area to make sure equipment is clean, functioning properly, and used according to the rules of the facility. We are looking for an outgoing personality, basic knowledge of a fitness facility, and good communication skills.

At least one year of experience in a recreation/fitness setting is preferred but not required. First-aid/CPR/AED certification may be required upon hire. As this is a physical job, the requirement includes the ability to set up equipment and lift at least 25 pounds. Interested individuals can apply in person at the Wyoming Recreation Center. Wyoming Woman’s Club will meet on Monday, May 7. The speaker will be members of the Wyoming Police Department who will be discussing Identity Theft, Credit Card Fraud, and Self-Protection.

Meetings are held the first Monday of the month, October through May, at the Civic Center. A social time begins at 11:30 am, lunch at 12:00 pm, and the speaker is from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Come support your local Wyoming entrant for the World Choir Games!

The free Valley Concert Series ends this Sunday, May 6^th with a presentation by the choir that will be competing in this summer’s World Choir Games. Don’t miss out on this chance to hear some very moving music and song—everyone is invited.

You might not have heard of these titles, but there will be something for everyone. Music will include Bach’s Jesu Meine Freude; Priceless Treasure; Baloo Lammy, a traditional Scottish carol; My Dancing Day arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw; and an African American spiritual, We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace. To round out the concert the choir will sing Frostiana, Choose Something Like a Star, and the famous Alleluia, all by Randall Thompson. Come and bring a friend! As always, the concert is free.

Please stop by the Presbyterian Church of Wyoming at 4pm to hear the songs that will be sung for the competition and cheer on your neighbors and friends in the choir.

Vacaton Bible School Supply Scavenger Hunt!

Vacation Bible School Supply Scavenger Hunt In connection with the Vacation Bible School on June 11-15 led by The Presbyterian Church of Wyoming, Wyoming Baptist Church, Friendship United Methodist Church, and Ascension and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, a group of junior high students will be on a scavenger hunt to collect supplies for the crafts and activities as well as canned food to donate to Valley Interfaith. They will be going around the Village area of Wyoming on Sunday night, May 6 between 5pm and 7pm. If you have any of the following:

Paper Towel Tubes

Empty 2 liter bottles (or filled ones that you don't want anymore)

Empty water bottles (like Aquafina-type)

Old CDs

Mesh Bath Scrubbies

Cardboard Wrapping Paper tubes

Cardboard egg cartons (not styrofoam)

Canned goods to donate to Valley Interfaith
