Vehicle Thefts

The Wyoming Police Department is currently investigating several vehicle burglary complaints that have occurred over the past few nights. The suspects entered unlocked vehicles and removed loose change, blank checks, and a briefcase. A majority of these incidents involved unlocked vehicles with two having had windows broken out by the perpetrators to gain access to the passenger compartments. These incidents occurred on the following streets: Barney Ave., Brayton Ave., Hillcrest Ave., Woodbrook Ln., Oliver Rd., Oliver Ct., and Wilmuth Ave.

At about 2:30 a.m. this morning Wyoming Police Officers stopped a vehicle and two occupants that appeared to be casing the area of Burns Avenue in Wyoming and Hartwell. Both were identified with one of the subjects having multiple outstanding warrants. They were operating a black 1995 Chevrolet Blazer with Ohio plates of FJT3919. It is unknown at this time if they were involved in the thefts earlier this week; however, if you see this vehicle in our community, please contact the Police Department immediately.

The Wyoming Police Department offers the following tips to our residents to help reduce the chances of becoming a victim of these types of crimes of opportunity:

-Lock your vehicle when parked and remove any valuables such as cash, loose change, wallets, purses, and other items. This includes vehicles parked in driveways and garages.
-
Keep in mind that hiding valuables in the trunk isn’t a deterrent, it used to be, as most modern vehicles have trunk releases in the passenger compartment that are readily accessed in an unlocked vehicle.
-
Secure your main garage doors and any other doors allowing access to the garage.
-
This is a good time to make sure that the locks on your exterior doors and windows on your home are functioning properly.
-
Make sure you secure your home when leaving for any period of time.

Residents are encouraged to immediately report any suspicious persons, vehicles, noises or circumstances to the Wyoming Police Department by calling 821-0141 or in the event of an emergency, 911.

If you are not sure whether to call, go ahead and make the call so our police officers cans investigate and possibly prevent a crime from occurring. Thank you for helping in keep our community safe!
