Alcohol Prohibited on Public Property, Underage Drinking Enforcement Reminder

Alcohol Prohibited on Public Property; Underage Drinking Enforcement

Given the number of community events such as concerts, festivals, fall sporting events such as Homecoming, occurring on public property in the City of Wyoming, the police department would like to remind residents of the local and state laws restricting the possession of open containers of alcohol in public places and on public property.  Public property includes parking lots, parks, playgrounds, streets, sidewalks, schools, libraries, and other property regularly used by the general public.  The City of Wyoming’s Open Container Law (http://www.conwaygreene.com/Wyoming/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&2.0) prohibits anyone from possessing an opened container of beer or intoxicating liquor on certain premises, which includes in any public place.

For this Homecoming weekend, officers will be actively enforcing this law as well as enforcing any underage alcohol violations. The police department’s goal is to make sure everyone attending community events enjoys themselves in a responsible, legal and safe manner!

If you have any questions, please contact the police department at 821.0141.
