Public Input Session
Public Input Session on Safe Routes to Schools
Please join the City of Wyoming and the Wyoming City Schools in developing the Safe Routes to Schools School Travel Plan on September 12 from 3:30 to 6:00 pm at the Wyoming Recreation Center. The School Travel Plan will be the guiding document to assist the City in pursuing grant funding from the Safe Routes to Schools Grant Program based upon the following program objectives:
1. We wish to increase the number of students walking or biking to and from school on a daily basis.
2. We desire to improve the safety of our built environment in the City for our students, future students, and our community.
3. We desire to increase the safety of the built environment immediately surrounding our schools.
4. We want to have parents achieve a peace of mind knowing their children are safe walking and riding their bikes to and from school.
5. We are committed to educating students and the community in health and fitness, the environment, and personal safety.
You can assist in guiding the content of the School Travel Plan by attending a Public Input Session on Monday, September 12 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Wyoming Recreation Center. This is an “open house” style session… stay as long or as little as you wish!
During this session, you will have the opportunity to provide your comments on existing ideas and provide your new ideas and suggestions for the following components of the School Travel Plan:
1. Engineering Solutions – Construction improvements to improve the flow and safety of pedestrians and bicyclists and traffic (i.e. new sidewalks) within two miles of each primary school and the middle school.
2. Education Solutions – Involves teaching pedestrian and bicycle safety and creating awareness of the benefits of active transportation.
3. Enforcement Solutions – Intended to deter unsafe behaviors by drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists by encouraging all road users to obey traffic signals and share the road safely.
4. Encouragement Solutions – Intended to generate interest in walking and biking (i.e. fun activities such as special events or contests) to remind parents and children that walking and biking are great ways to get to and from school.
5. Evaluation Solutions – Measures the impact of these efforts to encourage walking and biking to and from school.
We hope to see you at the Public Input Session on September 12! Please contact Lynn Tetley, City Manager, at ltetley@wyoming.oh.us or (513) 842-1382 if you have questions or would like additional information. If you are unable to attend this session, please send your comments and suggestions via email!
