Crime Alert from the Wyoming Police Department: Laptops, GPS devices, Cell Phones and other Valuable Items Taken from Residents’ Vehicles

Crime Alert from the Wyoming Police Department:  Laptops, GPS devices, Cell Phones and other Valuable Items Taken from Residents’ Vehicles

Over the past week, between midnight and 5:00 a.m. suspect(s) broke into several vehicles and took briefcases, laptops/laptop bags, GPS devices, cell phones, and other valuables that were in plain view. Incidents have been reported on the following streets: Holman View Drive, Diplomat Drive, Evergreen Circle, Congress Run Road, Hilltop Lane, Flagstaff Drive, and Abilene Trail. The Police Department has processed the crime scenes and is working closely with other neighboring police departments to identify and apprehend the suspect(s) in involved in these thefts. In addition, patrol officers are increasing their presence in the targeted areas.

The suspect(s) may return in the future looking for additional opportunities to steal valuables from our residents’ vehicles. The Wyoming Police Department requests that residents please remove all valuables from your vehicle(s).  Leaving valuables such as laptop computers, cell phones, GPS devices, iPods, and wallets, in plain view in your vehicle increases the chances of items being stolen and damage occurring to your vehicle.  Also, leaving GPS docks, iPod and other electronic accessories openly visible in your vehicle signals that you may have the devices hidden in the passenger compartment.  The Police Department advises residents to also remove these accessories from the vehicle or from plain view.

If, as a last resort, you have to leave something valuable in your vehicle, make sure it is out of sight, and/or place it in the trunk.

If you have any information that may help us solve these crimes or if you hear or see anything suspicious, no matter what time of day, please call the Wyoming Police Department right away at 513.821.0141.  In case of an emergency or an active crime in progress, call 911.  This will increase the chances of the suspects being immediately apprehended.  Thank you!

Chief Gary J. Baldauf
