Wyoming National Night Out and Open House

Wyoming National Night Out and Open House

On Tuesday, August 3rd from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. the Wyoming Police Department will be hosting Wyoming’s 2nd annual National Night Out event at the Village Green Park. The theme of this year’s event is “Connecting with Each Other to Protect Our Neighborhoods” as suggested by a member of the North Burns Avenue Neighborhood Watch group. The event will include a music D.J., kid’s games, a bounce house, police and fire vehicle and equipment displays, Ohio Army National Guard vehicles and display, crime prevention information, cool zones, food & drinks available for purchase, and free sno-cones compliments of the Wyoming Police Association.

This year, as part of this event, the Police Department will be holding an open house at the Safety Services Facility, giving members of our community an opportunity to tour the police department and to see the equipment and people working behind the scenes to keep our community safe.

National Night Out was started by National Town Watch in 1984 to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Initially, communities held “lights-on” vigils. Now, many communities hold block parties, festivals, and other events to help bring neighbors together and to get to know their police officers and other safety service personnel.

The following have joined together to make this event possible: Larosa’s of Wyoming, Wyoming Avenue Farmer’s Market, Wyoming Neighborhood Watch Groups, Wyoming Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association, the Wyoming Avenue Farmer’s Market, Wyoming Fire-EMS Department, Wyoming Fire Association, Wyoming Police Association, Wyoming Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association, and the Wyoming Police Department.

Wyoming’s National Night Out and Open House Event is an opportunity for residents and families to meet their neighbors and have some fun, get to know their police officers and Fire/EMS personnel while taking a stand against crime in our community.
