Wyoming Receives News on Fire Station Grant and Promenade Task Force Appointed
The City of Wyoming was notified that it was not selected as a finalist for the Homeland Security Fire Station Grant Fund. There was $210 million included in the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act for new Fire Station buildings. There were several billion dollars of requests submitted across the country for this program. The proposed grant would have moved the fire station south of the Civic Center on Springfield Pike.
The City Council recently authorized a Citizen Task Force to conduct a planning review of the land uses between the Library and the Civic Center, including those two properties. Part of the impetus was to determine the potential impact of the station next to the Civic Center. However, there remain larger issues in this area of Wyoming. These include, but are not limited too: 1)The highest and best use of the Civic Center, 2)The potential impact of an expansion of the Middle School and the School Districts footprint in this area; 3)The impact of the Library's finances and the impact that may have on the Wyoming Branch Library, 4) The ongoing successful re-development of the commercial area (e.g. Half-Day Cafe, Rod Sidley's architect, Independent You). Mentioned in the Master Plan as the Promenade, it is anticipated that this Task Force will provide City Council with several recommendations to consider. You will be able to follow this Task Force's progress as its minutes will be posted on the City's website at www.wyoming.oh.us
The members of the Task Force are: Al Delgado (Chair), Ralph Boss, Phyllis Bossin, Craig Hurwitz, Pamela Kamm, Jenni McCauley, Todd Levy, Tom Mellot, Dale Hipsley, and Tom/Allison Manges.
