Crime Alert & Tips from Chief Gary Baldauf
The Police Department reported 15 incidents of vehicles being tampered with or entered over the past weekend. Most of the reports involved suspects rummaging through unlocked vehicles looking for valuables and finding none whereas in four of them various electronic and personal items were taken. These incidents occurred overnight and included parked vehicles west of Springfield Pike from Mt. Pleasant to Harmon Drive.
The Wyoming Police Department learned that similar incidents occurred in Woodlawn during the previous weekend. The Wyoming Police Department is working closely with the Woodlawn Police Department to investigate potential leads to ultimately arrest the suspect(s) involved in these incidents.
Tips
We do live in a safe environment and as a result our residents feel comfortable and forget to lock their vehicles. The best way to keep from becoming a victim of this kind of crime is to not leave valuables inside your vehicle and by locking your cars.
All of these incidents involved vehicles that were left unlocked.
Locking your cars and houses is especially important during a bad economy when some people are more prone to break the law. Outdoor motion-sensor lights are also a good deterrent to both residential and vehicle break-ins.
