Farmers’ Market Premiers Film: FRESH
The Wyoming Ave. Farmers’ Market hosts a special screening of the film FRESH Friday, June 26 in Wyoming; the film’s only Cincinnati-area showing to date.
FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people who are re-inventing the food system in the United States. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, the film focuses on people who offer a practical vision for the planet’s future of food. The film was made by Ana Sophia Joanes.
The June 26th screening will be held at the Wyoming High School Pendery Center for the Arts, 106 Pendery Avenue in Wyoming, Ohio, at 7:30 p.m. A panel of local farmers, food experts and “green” specialists will discuss the film after the showing. Tickets for the film and panel discussion are $14 each and can be purchased online www.freshthemovie.com/screenings/fresh-screenings or at the market.
“The experts on our panel were invited for their experience in food distribution, organic agriculture and community activism,” said Britt Hedges, vendor liaison for the market. “We know that by bringing great ideas to the forefront, we can make a difference in our health and planet.”
The Wyoming Ave. Farmers' Market is a producer-only, volunteer-run business committed to offering local, consumable products. The fresh produce is organically or sustainably grown within 90 miles of the market, and the cottage-produced goods are made within 25 miles of the market. The market is held each Tuesday from May through October at 522 Wyoming Avenue at the intersection with Van Roberts. For more information, visit http://www.wyomingavefarmersmarket.com.
Before dedicating herself to filmmaking, Ana Sophia Joanes founded Reel Youth, Inc., a video production program for youth coming out of detention, and other under-served youth. Her first documentary, Generation Meds, explored our fears and misgivings about mental illness and medication. FRESH is Joanes’s second documentary. For more information, visit
