Disposal of Water Damaged Items

Disposal of Water Damaged Items

As a result of flooded basements and other water damage from last night’s (June 2) storm, many residents are asking how to dispose of wet, damaged carpeting, furniture and other possessions.

Before disposing of any damaged possessions, please make sure to contact with your insurance agent to see if your policy covers the cost of such things as renting a dumpster, or for water extrication services, etc.

Rumpke will continue with the regular Tuesday/Thursday garbage days. Rumpke will be following the usual policy of one large/junk item per week in your household trash.  One large/junk item may include things such as a washer, a dryer, a couch, etc.  As for carpeting, a large/junk item would be four rolls of carpeting cut into 4’x4’ sections, rolled and tied.

Rumpke provides a special pick up service to Wyoming every-other week with the next regularly scheduled special pick up being Tuesday, June 9th.  Please call the City’s Administration Office (513.821.7600) by Noon on Friday, June 5th if you would like to sign up for Tuesday’s special pick up.  Rumpke charges $75 per half hour of loading time for special pick ups.  Pickups taking more than one-half hour will be charged $75 for each additional half hour or fraction thereof.

Additionally, there is a small, 4 cubic yard dumpster available from Rumpke.  To reserve the dumpster, you must provide your payment of $50 in cash or check made payable to Rumpke and bring it to the City Building at 800 Oak Avenue, along with instructions as to where you want the dumpster placed.  This dumpster is left on your property for a week.  The dumpster is rented on a first come first serve basis, meaning the payment must be received before you can be put on the schedule to receive the dumpster.
