Calling All Teens: HCDOES Accepting Applications for 2nd Annual Green Team Youth Council

To all you recycling, composting, reusable-water-bottle-toting teens:

If you’re passionate about going green, the Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services (HCDOES) has a group for you. Right now, HCDOES is accepting applications for the 2009-2010 “Green Team” Youth Council—a unique group where you can work with local environmental policymakers to express your ideas, get involved in local green events, and make a difference in our local environment.
The HCDOES “Green Team” provides students with the opportunity to learn more about environmental issues such as air quality and recycling, while also making an impact in their schools and communities. Volunteer opportunities and excursions to environmental sites of interest are also available through the council. Last year’s Youth Council, for example, was recognized by the Cincinnati Bengals and Coach Marvin Lewis as a “Green Team,” and invited to Paul Brown Stadium for the Bengals Draft Party. Students also worked on outreach campaign ideas, and took an educational tour of the LEED certified Schott Education Center at the Cincinnati Zoo.
The program is for high school students between the ages 13-18, who reside in Hamilton, Butler, Clermont and Warren Counties. Interested high school students may apply by downloading the application at the HCDOES website:
www.hcdoes.org.

All completed applications must be submitted to Kristy Kim by Friday, June 5.  Applications can be mailed to 250 William Howard Taft Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45219, emailed to kristy.kim@hamilton-co.org or faxed to 513-946-7779. Parents and teachers interested in serving as advisors are invited to call 513-946-7754.

Teens have the potential to make a big difference in our local environment. Join the effort toward a greener community by applying for the HCDOES Youth Council today!
