Wyoming named the #1 recycler in Hamilton County for the first period of 2010!

Congratulations Wyoming!  The City of Wyoming is the #1 recycler in Hamilton County for the first period of 2010!  Wyoming is consistently among the top five recyclers in the county, with over 25% of the waste stream diverted to recycling.  In September 2009, the City started offering 65-gallon recycling containers to rent for $1 per month.  Over 580 Wyoming households have signed up to participate in this program thus far.

To get your own 65-gallon rolling recycling container, visit the City’s website at www.wyoming.oh.us/esc for registration forms or stop by the City Building.  For questions about this program, email esc@wyoming.oh.us.  For questions regarding billing, email lbussell@wyoming.oh.us or call 513.821.7600.

Wyoming Schools Celebrating Success

Wyoming Schools Celebrating Success

The recently released 2009-10 State Report Card from the Ohio Department of Education indicated that Wyoming Schools achieved a performance index rating of 110.4, second highest in the state. (Solon in northern Ohio received 110.5.)

The schools are again rated Excellent with Distinction. Wyoming Schools have earned the highest rating for 11 consecutive years.

“It is important to take time to recognize the academic gains of our district and of the individual students,” stated Dr. Gail Kist-Kline. “This accomplishment does not come easily. It takes all of us - educators, parents, and community - working everyday to support and inspire students to reach their full potential. Thank you Wyoming residents for your continued support of the schools.

Display of “Political Signs”

Display of “Political Signs”

It is that time of year when many individuals choose to display signs promoting their favorite candidate for public office or other political issues.   In May of 2009, City Council adopted a new ordinance regulating signage in the community.  “Political signs” fall into the category of temporary, non-commercial signs.  A maximum of 3 signs exhibiting non-commercial messages, excluding the property address, may be placed on residential properties within the community.  These signs may not exceed six square feet and if the sign is tied to an event, {such as an election}, they must be removed within seven days after the conclusion of the event.  No sign may be placed in the City rights-of-way or on any other City property.  Signs found in these locations are subject to removal and disposal without notice.   For more information please feel free to contact tvanderman@wyoming.oh.us or to call 513.821.7600.

Wyoming Woman’s Club Announces 2010 Scholarship Recipient

For the past 60 years, Wyoming Woman’s Club has awarded a scholarship to a Wyoming High School senior for outstanding and conscientious effort in academics and extracurricular activities.

This year, the WWC 2010 scholarship goes to Stephanie Brandstetter who is ranked 11th in her class with a GPA of 4.48.  She is a hard worker as demonstrated by her many AP Courses.  Stephanie plays both piano and viola and has been in orchestra throughout high school.  She is a member of Cum Laude, the Spanish National Honor Society, the National Honor Society, and has received a College Board AP Scholar Award.

Stephanie has also taken the time to help others.  The volunteered as an assistant soccer coach, assisted with Girls of the Run as a mentor, worked as a TAP advisor with the 6th graders, and helped in the Kindergarten class as a teacher’s aide.  She loves working with children and plans to major in early childhood education and become a teacher.

Stephanie will be attending Wittenberg in the fall and is the recipient of the Wittenberg Scholar Award.  In spite of a very heavy academic schedule and family medical hardships that few have faced, this young woman has accomplished tremendous things.  Wyoming Womans’s Club is proud that Stephanie is our scholarship winner and wishes her much success as she enters college this fall.
